Holiday Tuesday IT Journo |
|
| All the Tuesday section
remained mainly in holiday mode today, although The Fin did manage four
pages. Rachael Osman-Chin led with a report on how investor Andrew Kelly
had "scuttled" Dolby's takeover plans of Lake Technology with
the sale of his stock to the Babcock & Brown Group, a report that Colin
Kruger also had for The Herald. Rachel Lebihan meanwhile had a nice report on how preparation for April 11, the day Australia's new spam laws come into effect, is proving something of a New Year headache for media, comms and marketing departments. While the managing director of an e-marketing company claimed the new laws had already turned a half-hour job into a two-day chore, Max Australia's Fiona Martin was quoted as saying her firm would not change its press release distribution model but instead add an 'Unsubscribe' option at the end of each email sent by the company. "Ms Martin pointed out... that the electronic distribution of press releases to the media was not considered spam because consent was inferred based on the business relationship between the company and journalists," Lebihan wrote. "She said an unsubscribe option would gradually be added at the end of every communication distributed by the company, which would allow recipients to opt out at any time." |
